God has rejected saul because God can see the heart of Saul.
If you still look at the appearance of people, you will only be deceived. Ask God for you to see the motivation of the heart. It's called discerning of spirits. It's a gift of the Holy Spirit for you to know what is in the heart. If you ask earnestly to God He will give you this gift so that your eyes may be opened.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 ESV
